From Bayeux you can visit the famous D-Day beaches. Together, the coastline, museums and memorials tell the story of the June 1944 landings. Bayeux is an excellent starting point for a day exploring Omaha Beach and other historic sites in this remarkable part of Normandy.

Omaha Beach

Omaha Beach is moving because of the combination of its wide beach, high coastline and history. Several museums and memorials are located nearby. A walk along the beach gives a vivid sense of the landscape in which the events unfolded.

Normandy has both large and small museums devoted to D-Day and the Second World War. Personal stories, vehicles, photographs and objects bring the history to life. The many memorials along the coast also make a journey through this area memorable and moving.

Caen and the Mémorial

The Mémorial de Caen is a major museum devoted to the Second World War, D-Day and peace. A visit combines well with Caen’s castle and historic centre, creating a varied day of history, architecture and French city life.
